School Profile:
Vessey Leadership Academy is a 9-12 Charter High School located in West. St. Paul. It is a free public school attended by students from throughout the Twin Cities area. The school’s mission is to teach discipline and leadership through the JROTC program while providing students with a traditional curriculum. The school’s population is highly diverse and consists of a high number of students meeting the state definition of “at risk”. The school environment is highly dynamic, challenging, and rewarding.
Position Description:
This is an assignment to teach five 55 minute classes and one 25 minute advisory everyday including Biology, Human Biology, Physical Science, Physics and/or Chemistry…
- Working cooperatively as part of a small staff
- Full year and semester curriculum planning following Minnesota state standards
- Developing creative and flexible lessons
- Maintaining accurate records in a timely manner
- Working cooperatively with students, parents, advisors, tutors, and case managers
- Teaching the advisory curriculum and serving as advisor to a group of students
- Additional duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with Minnesota Teaching License in Science
- Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work as part of a team
- Understanding and appreciation of diversity & at-risk population
- Ability to establish and maintain high expectations in a challenging and dynamic environment
- Comfort level working with students of varied academic abilities
- Ability to formulate creative and effective lesson plans
Duration: On-going, full time following the school-year calendar
Compensation: Competitive teaching scale and benefits
Start Date: Staff workshops begin Monday August 25th. School begins September 2nd.
