Academics

 

Our program offers a traditional curriculum featuring six periods per day and includes one period of JROTC. Our curriculum is enriched by academic support, outside partnerships such as the PSEO program, and transition planning in the form of a fifteen minute advisory period.

Leadership & Discipline
All cadets take attend one JROTC class per day, while enrolled at Vessey. JROTC is a comprehensive academic program in the military model emphasizing citizenship, leadership, and life skills. The military model provides a safe, secure environment, and leadership opportunities for each student. JROTC fulfills the state requirement for physical education and health, and counts as additional elective credits. Sex education is offered, at parental discretion. The JROTC curriculum is built around these six core subjects:

  • Introduction to Character and Leadership Development
  • Leadership Theory and Application
  • Foundations for Success (communication, conflict resolution, and problem solving)
  • Wellness, Fitness, and First Aid
  • Geography and Earth Science
  • Citizenship and American History

 

Advisory
The purpose of advisory is to assist students in tracking and managing their academic progress and provide them with the opportunity and resources necessary to plan beyond high school. This includes a number of activities including skill and interest assessment, career exploration, presentations by post-secondary institutions, college visits, and transitional skills lessons.
